Three highlights in my career were when Father God:
- Called me to one of the Original Gospel DJs,
- Changed my name from Mr. D. to Dr. D., and
- Called me "The Father of the Gospel DJ Movement".
He commissioned me to document the History, Unify the Movement, and to Change the Gospel Music Industry.

The Father of the Gospel DJ Movement 50th year Anniversary
Dr. Duane "Dr. D." Knight's 50th Anniversary marks a monumental milestone that transcends a personal celebration; it signifies half a century of pioneering innovation in Gospel music and DJ culture. Emerging from the vibrant 1970s, parallel to the burgeoning Hip Hop scene, Dr. D. was one of six visionary teenagers who answered a divine call. They stepped forward to champion gospel music that traditional radio outlets, choirs, and standard formats were not yet embracing. These pioneers, with Dr. D. at the forefront, became the true architects of street promotions, serving as the pulse of emerging artists and discovering new voices, much like their secular counterparts revolutionized music distribution.
Dr. D.'s journey is a testament to unwavering dedication and groundbreaking achievement, embodying the "five-fold ministry" of a Gospel DJ: Release, Replay, Remix, Reproduce, and Rejuvenate. His early entrepreneurial spirit led to the co-founding of the Original Mobile Gospel DJs in 1979, the creation of official NYC Gospel Skate Nights, and the launch of the first Triboro Gospel Skating Revival tour. Beyond mobile events, he revolutionized radio with the first Contemporary Gospel Music show on WHCR 90.3 FM, "Late Nite Journey 2," and established the groundbreaking Gospel Lighthouse Christian Nite Club—the first Christian social venue inside a "real" nightclub, providing a platform for diverse gospel genres and even featuring on BBC documentaries. These initiatives not only showcased music but also fostered community and gave Christians new avenues for expression.
This 50-year anniversary is a celebration of a legacy that continues to inspire and influence. Dr. D. is widely recognized as the "Father of the Gospel DJ Movement," an inductee into the DJ Legend & Holy Hip Hop/Christian Hip Hop Hall of Fame, a three-time feature in DJ Times Magazine, and a nominee for the National Black Radio Hall of Fame. His continuous mentorship, tireless work to elevate Gospel DJs, and his crucial role in establishing platforms like the first Christian DJ Record Pool and Music Conference for Christian DJs have profoundly shaped the Gospel music industry. His 50-year journey is a beacon of dedication, showing how one individual's divine calling and unwavering commitment can transform a genre and uplift countless lives.
